As we move head long into the fall/winter season you may be considering if you, your children, or possibly a loved one should have an annual flu shot. After all, the signs and recommendations are relentless.  News broadcasts admonish us and signs in every pharmacy shout out the reminder “Flu shots given here.”

But before you rush out and expose yourself to these vaccines please consider the following: In children aged 6 – 24 months who were vaccinated with a flu shot, it was found to be no more effective than giving normal saline (a placebo). In children over two years it was effective only 33% of the time. Meaning that two-thirds of the time these children remained at risk even after the vaccine was given. This included 51 studies involving 290,000 children.

Studies show results even less effective in regards to adults/elderly. Flu vaccines were found to actually be ineffective in both preventing the flu or the possible complications that could result from the flu. In fact, in a review of 75 studies by researchers they found that the evidence to support the use of flu vaccines in adults/elderly was so poor that it “provided no guidance on the safety of the flu vaccine.”

Next, let’s take a look at exactly what the flu vaccine is made up of. You may be shocked:

1.) A mixture of egg proteins including bird contaminant viruses

2.) Polysorbate 80 – associated with infertility in animals

3.) Formaldhyde – a known carcinogen

4.) Triton X100 – a detergent

5.) Sucrose – sugar

6.) Thimerisol – typically seen in multi-dose flu vaccine bottles and is 50% mercury by weight, a known neurotoxin and the third most toxic item known to mankind. You should never ingest or inject any type of products containing mercury.

The commonly prescribed flu vaccine Flulaval contains 25 ug of mercury, in the form of thimerisol, as well as formaldehyde, as stated above, a known carcinogen. This dose of thimerosol exceeds the EPA’s safety limit of mercury exposure by over 250 times!  After seeing this line up I’d sooner sprinkle myself with “pixie dust” or rub a rabbits foot!

So, how can a person protect themselves from entering a state where a flu virus can take hold? Here are a few of my favorite suggestions and ones I use myself.

1.) Maintain adequate vitamin A and D levels. This helps the immune system fight viral infections. Examples of some great foods loaded with Vit A: Liver (turkey liver is the highest), carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and dark leafy greens. Great food sources of Vit D are: fish (herring, salmon, and sardines are highest), eggs, mushrooms, and dairy (here in Calif. we can purchase good raw dairy at Lassen’s). But one of our best sources is still the sun, sans sunscreen. So, if you live anywhere sunny as I do, then get out there and enjoy it responsibly, exposing as much skin as possible.

2.) Getting plenty of Vit C is another excellent preventative. I prefer to obtain my Vit. C from foods and one of the best sources of neutral Vit C are onions, any type, green, yellow, purple ect. Cooked is best and the most digestible, so add plenty them to all your cooking where appropriate.

3.) Wash your hands frequently and remember, the real benefit is not the soap but the friction applied with your hands.

4.) Finally, drinking adequate amounts of water systematically, meaning 3-4 oz  every 30 min., to maintain hydration and assist with cleansing the body helps the immune system ward off infection. The kidneys can only handle 8 oz of fluid per hour, so guzzling large amounts of water at one time is unproductive. Distilled water is best and if you are into storing water for emergencies, as I am, distilled water will keep the longest.

Here’s to your healthiest winter season ever!

I have a question. What would happen if you ate and digested the perfect diet created just for you? Would you feel better or worse? Do you think your weight would normalize and would your overall health and well-being begin to improve radically?

My experience is that chronic problems such as heartburn, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, arthritis, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and weight gain improve greatly.

Since all chronic degenerative disease processes such as diabetes and heart disease have a nutritional link, I have found those to improve as well.

People love diets. Unfortunately the diets most of us love are just not creating the radiant health we so desire.

Nutrition in this country is typically a one-size-fits-all approach. If you were to pick up the latest and greatest diet book are they writing specifically about YOU?

When a book or article suggests taking 1,000 mg. of calcium per day, what if your body can only handle 750 mg?  Or, your body is actually calling for 1,500 mg. a day. And what if that form of calcium is completely ineffective and will not be utilized by your body, creating an additional stress for the body to eliminate it. Or maybe your style is just “pop and pray!”

Here at Women’s Health Advantage, we know that nutrition is not a one-size-fits-all, but is totally unique to YOU. We understand that proper nutrition is NOT giving a patient 100 different vitamins to take.

We also understand that health begins with giving a client the perfect eating plan FOR THEM based on test procedures that are reliable, reproducible and measurable. Next we understand that any diet is useless unless it is digested properly. So we give our patients the proper enzyme and nutritional supplements based on reliable testing procedures instead of having you just “pop and pray.”

Radiant health begins with the basics. To see if you are covering the basics call for your free no-obligation phone consultation and Vitality Check-Up at 661-310-7373. I look forward to guiding you on the road to vibrant health!

Get the new year started right and make this your year for vibrant health! In this article I’m sharing my favorite 4 super foods to get you moving on the right path to build great health and improved digestion, immunity, and vitality that lasts all day…

1. Organic Land and Ocean Vegetables
Low in calories and rich in essential minerals, vitamins, protein and important trace elements that are lacking in non-organic land vegetables due to soil demineralization. Sea vegetables such as Nori, Kombu or Wakame contain more minerals than any other kind of food.

Remember that eating raw cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and radishes can actually suppress thyroid hormone production leading to fatigue and a slowing of your metabolism. Gentle steaming, stir-frying or fermenting will eliminate this problem.

2. Fermented Foods and Drinks
Amazingly enzyme and probiotic-rich they improve digestion, stop sugar cravings, provide essential vitamins and minerals and boost immunity. Populate your gut with beneficial bacteria to build immunity and promote vibrant health.

Try them as the perfect accompaniment to all types of protein such as eggs, beef, chicken or fish. Add sour cream to create a fresh nutrient-dense dip. Vegetable juices can be added to organic olive oil for a tangy salad dressing. At Women’s Health Advantage we carry lacto-fermented vegetables, juices, and coconut kefir by Alive foods.

3. Healthy Proteins
Organic grass-fed meat, poultry and wild fish. An excellent online source is US Wellness Meats. Raw dairy: milk, cream, colostrum, cheese and butter are available at Whole Foods.

Seeds and nuts are also an excellent source of protein. Soak or sprout first to neutralize enzyme inhibitors that can block utilization of nutrients. Almonds, pecans, cashews, macadamia nuts and peanuts have a high content of stable oleic acid that prevents them from going rancid easily. Prepare by soaking and dehydrating. Then store for months at room temperature in an airtight container!

4. Healthy Fats
Provide essential fatty acids that give us beautiful skin, brain power, enhanced immunity, and fight depression. Although demonized by the mainstream press, the healthiest forms of fat are the saturated fats. Examples include: raw butter, coconut oil, lard, tallow and small amounts of olive oil. Note that lard and tallow products must come from animals that were raised properly.

7 Principles of the Body Ecology Diet

  • The Principle of Acid and Alkaline recommends maintaining a slightly alkaline blood pH of 7.4 by consuming foods and drinks that are alkalizing in your body. Lifestyle changes that reduce stress are also vital for keeping your blood more alkaline because cortisol raises blood sugar (acid-forming) and leaches alkaline-forming minerals from your body.
  • The Principle of Uniqueness maintains that everyone is “an experiment of one.” Your body is completely unique, and as you experiment with different ways of eating, honor your body’s wisdom.
  • The Principle of Cleansing. As you begin to rejuvenate your body with healthy foods and drinks, your body’s energy will increase causing continual, ongoing cleansing. Embrace these cleansings as they come and go, even if you experience an uncomfortable flare up of negative symptoms. They will pass as you continue on your path to wellness.
  • The Principle of Food Combining is essential to proper digestion. By avoiding starches and proteins in the same meal, you create an environment in your digestive tract that promotes optimal digestion. Read more about this principle in Food Combining: The Little-Understood Secret to Optimal Weight & Health Revealed.
  • The Principle of 80/20 really has two parts and tells us how much food to take in each meal. Part A: Never consume more than 80% of your stomach’s capacity). Part B: Be mindful of the ratio of vegetables to starches or proteins. An ideal meal is 80% vegetables and only 20% either grains, BED grain-like seeds OR protein.
  • The Principle of Step by Step indicates that you can take the slow and steady approach to changing your diet and your lifestyle. Body Ecology is a system of health and healing with many tools for wellness. You can’t pick them all up at once. Choose the tool or tools that appeal to you the most and work on mastering these first. When you are comfortable with that tool, pick up another one. But never stop stepping towards wellness!!

Testimonials

For my 65th birthday present, I met with Jill Redfern as I was beginning to train for my first triathlon. How on earth I would ever be able to pull that off when I felt so awful was a real mystery to me. Feeling awful, I was tired, mildly depressed, foggy-brained, had split and peeling fingernails, a rash on my back and neck, my hair was thinning and I was cold all the time. Just one week after following Jill's diet and supplement plan, the mild depression lifted and has never returned. It was amazing to wake up just sleepy and not exhausted and sad. As the three months of training for the triathlon got underway, my energy continued to increase markedly. By the end of three months, the day of the triathlon, I swam 1/2 mile, biked 13 and ran 3 miles. I came in fourth in my age group. It was truly a miracle. Six months later, my nails and hair are beautiful, no more rash, my mind is clearer and I have given up being cold when the temperature drops below 80. Jill has been amazing and is very passionate about her work. She is a patient teacher and a genuine expert in her field. In my experience, Jill's program has a remarkable ability to heal, prevent premature aging, inhibit serious illness and bring about a very high level of physical, emotional and spiritual being. Her program works. I am so grateful to her.
